Where should you start your outdoor adventure? We’re so glad you asked…
How about going for a hike? There are plenty of great spots, including the Devils Bone Trail at Warriors’ Path State Park or Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium, which features 39 miles of trails that will take you along the lake, into the woods, and even up to the Fire Tower, which is a beautifully scenic location and must-see stop on the Kingsport Selfie Trail.
Interested in hitting the water? Boating is a popular activity on Patrick Henry Reservoir, which features two public ramps at the Park Marina. Boats are available for rental and include single and tandem kayaks, paddleboards, paddleboats, and canoes.
Love to ride your bike and explore new places? Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium offers 32 miles of trails that provide fun and adventure for bikers of all skill levels, including the 13-mile Tour of Bays. Warriors’ Path has a variety of stacked trails built and designed by mountain bikers. A local favorite is the main 8.3-mile loop, deemed an intermediate/difficult trail, which encompasses every main trial in the park.
If casting a line is your favorite way to relax, Fort Patrick Henry Lake is calling your name. A hot spot for local fishermen, the lake is loaded with bass, trout, catfish, crappie, and hybrid striped bass. The Fort Patrick Henry Tailwater on the South Holston River is also a fly fisherman’s delight!
If you like you hit the links you’re in luck because Kingsport is home to several top-level golf courses. Topping the list is Cattails at MeadowView, considered one of the top public golf courses in Tennessee and featuring Bermuda fairways and bentgrass greens. Warriors’ Path State Park Golf Course also features a nice 18-hole course, located on the shores of the Fort Patrick Henry Lake, while Crockett Ridge and Ridgefields have great layouts and are perfect for golfers of all skill levels.
Going for a walk is always a great way to get a bit of exercise and enjoy the beautiful weather. Kingsport is fortunate to have the Greenbelt, a nine-mile linear park that connects neighborhoods, downtown, commercial districts, schools, activity center, and other parks. The asphalt pathway takers walkers, runners, and bikers along the Holston River, streams, meadows, and marshlands, showcasing the beauty of the area. Other enjoyable Walking Trails can be found at area parks, including Domtar, Borden, Eastman Park at Horsecreek, Edinburgh, Ridgefields, Memorial Gardens, and Rotary Park.
The adventure doesn’t stop there! Continue the fun by camping in Kingsport. Warriors’ Path State Park offers 134 campsites, all with tables and grills. You can also enjoy horseback riding, disc golf, a boundless playground and fully-accessible tree house. We weren’t kidding when we said the adventure is endless!
