Christmas Festivities in Downtown Kingsport

Kingsport, Tennessee – The Downtown Kingsport Association will kick off the holidays beginning with a merchant open house on November 3 from 5 to 8 pm. Merchants will be celebrating the holidays with a fun atmosphere, Christmas decor and in-store specials. Over 30 retail stores and restuarants will stay open late to offer live music, beverages and appetizers. Once again, a beautiful, traditional, horse-drawn carriage will be available starting at P&J Antiques on Broad and Market Street for people to ride through the downtown streets and enjoy the new beautiful Christmas decorations.

Keta Hawley, promotion chair for DKA and owner of Turquoise Boutique said that last year’s open house had a huge turn-out with standing room only in all the shops. “It’s a festive night that everyone in downtown is excited about,” said Hawley. “I’ve got a band coming from right here in downtown called Model City Groove School for live music at my store.”

The day after Black Friday is Small Business Saturday. Merchants in downtown will offer their own individual specials and promotions, and will stay open during regular business hours. Check individual stores for more details.

On December 1 from 5 to 8 pm, the same stores will be open while there will be local choirs, buskers and actors strolling the sidewalks serenading the shoppers for the Jingle and Mingle event.

Kingsport’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will take place on Saturday, December 3 from 5 to 7 pm at Church Circle. Local school choirs and bands will be on hand playing Christmas music, fire pits and warming benches will be available again this year too compliments of Jackson Jones Construction. Commemorative t-shirts to highlight the Christmas tree lighting ceremony will once again be available to the public and can be purchased at the DKA office or the evening of the Christmas Tree Lighting.
